April saw our first sea dives of the season in Portland diving from Sea Leopard. The weather was great – sunny, dry and not much wind however a plankton bloom meant visibility was around a metre and the water was the same colour as your granny’s home cooked pea soup!
We ventured out of the harbour to dive the Hartlepool but decided that the rest of our dives should be in the harbour where visibility was better.
The Hartlepool, as always had lots of congers hiding under pieces of metal and in pipes. As the visibility was so bad you didn’t get to see them until you were practically nose to nose with them – a bit of a shock with some of the larger eels!
Harbour dives were on the Countess of Erne, the Spaniard, the Bombardon Unit and the Landing Craft.
A great weekend was had by all. Easy shallow dives to start off the season, test kit and shake things out ready for the diving season to start in earnest.
Click on the link below to watch a short video of our weekend – the GoPro app and big dive lights made the visibility look better than it was.
