Some of our club members, including one of our youngest completed their boat handling training at Swansea Bay. The theory was completed beforehand and everyone was excited at the thought of driving a rhib (rigid hulled inflatable boat) for the first time. We were blessed with the weather – very little wind, no rain and calm seas. Our members learnt the basics – how to launch and recover the rhib. Practical skills included high-speed driving, slow-speed manoeuvring, anchoring and coming alongside. They developed their overall seamanship skills, including voyage planning, essential rules of the road and learnt the actions to take in an emergency. A thoroughly enjoyable day for the trainees and instructors.
